
Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo state, has disbanded his cabinet in advance of Sen. Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) taking office as the state’s new governor on November 12.
Obaseki, who took office on November 12, 2016, is scheduled to leave office on November 12, 2024, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Shortly after a farewell meeting at Government House on Friday in Benin, Obaseki dissolved the cabinet.

His deputy, Godwins Omobayo, proposed the dissolution of the State Executive Council for 2020–2024, and Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, seconded the motion.
During the farewell meeting, the governor thanked the council members for supporting him in advancing the government’s goal of restoring Edo’s glory.
Obaseki also thanked the people of the state for their cooperation, prayers, and support of his government during his time in office.
Cabinet members alternated in praising the governor and recognising his numerous accomplishments across a range of fields.
They also expressed gratitude to the governor for providing them with the chance to serve the state’s citizens in their varied roles.
In addition, the departing commissioners and the heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) alternated in honouring the governor with presents and honours.
A banquet honouring the state governor marked the culmination of the departing state executive council’s valedictory session. (NAN)
