Customs personnel around the country have been warned by Nigeria Customs Service Controller General Bashir Adewale not to interact with “camp boys” at checkpoints.
The CG underlined the practice’s risk during a visit to the Kebbi State Area Command in Birnin Kebbi, represented by Assistant Controller General Zone B, Sambo Kaliyal Dangaladima.
The purpose of the visit was to boost officers’ spirits and get them ready for the next Customs conference in Abuja.

Officers were advised by the ACG to uphold professional conduct, respect individuals’ rights, and put their safety first.
He cautioned that employing camp youngsters for errands could jeopardise security since they might serve as smugglers’ and criminals’ informants.
Dangaladima also reaffirmed the Customs Service’s dedication to improving the welfare of its officers and personnel under the direction of CG Adewale.
Dangaladima further stated that because camp boys are prohibited and not accepted by national customs, their actions jeopardise border and checkpoint security. Because they start to resemble customs agents to unwary members of the public, “customs officers are hereby warned to desist forthwith from using them as errand boys.”
In Kebbi Command, however, the ACG commissions a football pitch and an e-library.
The purpose of the football pitch, according to Kebbi Command Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Earnest Ihejirike, is to keep officers and personnel in the command fit. He explained to the visitor that “all work and no play will dampen the morale and will weaken their health status hence the reason to build it in the Command.”
