According to the IGP, extensive preparations have been made to ensure a successful election, including the thoughtful placement of sufficient staff, resources, and cutting-edge machinery.
The Special Intervention Squad, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, K-9 Unit, Federal Investigation and Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), and Federal Intelligence and Security Task Force (FID-STS) are among the specialised units that will be represented at the deployment.
collaborating with other security organisations. These organisations will make sure that all actions are in line with the values of justice, openness, and order by closely following the rules set forth in the Electoral Act of 2022.
To maintain security throughout all terrains, police helicopters will be used for aerial patrols in addition to ground troops, while gunboats will patrol the state’s rivers and canals. The general stability of the elections will be improved by these all-encompassing safeguards, which will act as a disincentive to any attempt to interfere with the democratic process.
Political thugs and any other persons or groups that may consider committing violent or disruptive acts prior to, during, or following the election have also received a strong warning from the IGP: they will be subject to the full force of the law. The message is clear: there will be consequences for anyone who tries to endanger the state’s peace and security.
The IGP also reiterated the rules that have been set forth for managing election security in Nigeria, emphasising that no quasi-security organisation, including those supported by the state, such as Amotekun or Vigilante Corps, will be allowed to take part in the election process. Only the Nigeria Police Force and other federal security agencies, as well as the larger membership of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), have been given the authority to ensure the security of this election.
Together with other federal security services, the Nigeria Police Force is dedicated, watchful, and ready to make sure that the Ondo State Gubernatorial Election goes off without a hitch and in compliance with the strictest election integrity guidelines.
