Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the “Obidient Movement,” voiced hope that Peter Obi will win the presidency of Nigeria in 2027.
Speaking at a symposium in Onitsha, Anambra State, Tanko acknowledged that the Labour Party candidate was not elected in 2023 because of purported electoral fraud, but he also confirmed that the movement will be more ready for the following election cycle.

Tanko described the movement’s increased emphasis on youth empowerment, structure, and mobilisation at the one-day event, “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact,” which was organised by the Obidient Movement and Anambra State Support Groups. He emphasised that if people elect leaders who are dedicated to accountability and good government, a “new Nigeria” is achievable.
Tanko declared, “We are committed to advancing accountability and good governance.” “If we properly organise, Obi has the ability to become president in 2027. Before the general election in 2027, we’ll make sure our agents are well-trained and ready.
Tanko underlined that the movement wants to provide a solid basis for elections that are credible and fair. In his analysis of the 2023 elections, he pointed out that despite accusations of the Labour Party’s lack of political structure, Obi managed to secure a sizable following. But according to Tanko, electoral fraud ruined a fair result.
History won’t be repeated this time. We’ll be well-prepared,” he told the crowd.
The Obidient Movement’s strategy to promote electoral reform through public mobilisation and legislative initiatives was also emphasised at the symposium. Tanko clarified that they will present their ideas to the National Assembly and mobilise the populace in support of just electoral procedures in the streets and in the courts.
He claimed that the current administration is unpopular even in the North. “By empowering Nigerian youths and fighting for justice, equity, and significant change, we are dedicated to having a real impact.”
According to Tanko, the Obidient Movement is dedicated to creating a Nigeria where the people’s power is respected and where all citizens can experience true change under the correct leadership.
