Nothing will prevent us from eliminating all shanties that endanger Abuja’s security, said Wike.

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, has demanded that all shanties be taken down in Abuja in order to protect people and property in the nation’s capital.

Speaking to residents of a shanty hamlet in Abuja’s Wuye neighbourhood on Sunday night, the Minister stated that he would not give in to threats or extortion from anyone and that he was more worried about the security implications of having communities in the FCT without identified residents.

However, he gave the residents of Wuye shanty village instructions to designate five individuals to meet with the FCT Ministry on Tuesday in order to devise ways to support them.

As you can see, the FCT has experienced insecurity, and security forces have been working around the clock to ensure Abuja’s safety.

“Security hazards have been discovered, such as this location where a rail line passes through. No sane administration would permit this type of person to be present since it poses a security risk to the functioning of our trains.

“No respectable government will stand by and let thugs or unaccounted-for individuals occupy this space.”

Therefore, Wike declared, “no amount of threats, intimidation, or blackmail from any civil society organisation will stop us from doing what is right.”

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Abba Garu claimed that the FCT administration had just demolished the shanties for the 22nd time and begged the government to help them find housing.

He acknowledged that since the site was vacant and had been inhabited for years, they had only built temporary buildings on it.

Garu thanked the Minister for the chance to meet with Ministry personnel and look for ways to assist the tenants, promising that they would not rebuild their homes the way they have in the past.
