Galatasaray extended their lead at the top of the league to five points with a pivotal 3-2 victory over Samsunspor at home, inspired by Super Eagles scorer Victor Osimhen.

A fierce struggle at the Galatasaray stadium was put in motion when Osimhen opened the score with a strong header in the third minute.

Osimhen squandered his second chance in the 26th minute, heading over the bar from a perfect position close to the penalty spot.

When Davinson Sanchez’s foul resulted in a penalty in the 48th minute, Samsunspor managed to get back into the match. To tie the score at one, Olivier Ntcham easily converted by sliding the ball down the middle.

Galatasaray regained control in no time. Osimhen scored again with a strong header in the 55th minute when a rebound fell to his feet, giving Galatasaray a 2-1 lead again.

Baris Alper Yilmaz and Abdulkerim Bardakci’s attempts just missed the mark as the home team kept applying more pressure.

In the 85th minute, Michy Batshuayi found space in the box and put a shot into the bottom right corner to increase Galatasaray’s advantage to 3-1.

After a VAR review, Samsunspor fought back in stoppage time and was awarded a second penalty. In the 93rd minute, Youssef Ait Bennasser scored to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Galatasaray maintained the victory and solidified their position at the top of the league in spite of the late pressure.
