Tinubu laments Justice Ogwuegbu of the Supreme Court.

The family of Emmanuel Obioma Ogwuegbu, a former justice of the Supreme Court and Nigeria’s judiciary, has received President Bola Tinubu’s sincere sympathies on his loss.

In addition, the President expressed his condolences to the nation’s bar and bench members who were grieving the loss of this illustrious jurist.

According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Justice Ogwuegbu taught many judges and attorneys over his distinguished career.

Justice Ogwuegbu, who was born in 1933 in Amainyi, Ihitte-Uboma Local Government Area, Imo State, devoted more than fifty years to the legal profession before being appointed as a Justice of Nigeria’s Supreme Court.

In addition, he was the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies’ president.

Justice Ogwuegbu was chosen to lead the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, which looked into violations of human rights during the military government, following Nigeria’s restoration to democracy in 1999.

President Tinubu praised Justice Ogwuegbu’s steadfast dedication to justice, honesty, and the rule of law and acknowledged his lasting legacy.

He considered the crucial part played by Justice Ogwuegbu in establishing Nigeria’s judiciary as a place where justice is administered without fear or favour.

According to President Tinubu, Justice Ogwuegbu’s lifelong advocacy of the virtues of honesty, excellence, and discipline has permanently altered Nigeria’s judicial system.

The President underlined how Justice Ogwuegbu’s unwavering commitment to honesty, quality, and discipline has permanently changed Nigeria’s judicial system.

President Tinubu has stated that Nigerian law would continue to be guided by and refer to Justice Ogwuegbu’s seminal rulings, especially those pertaining to federalism, university autonomy, individual rights under the Nigerian Constitution, banking laws, and monetary policy.

President Tinubu prayed for eternal peace for Justice Ogwuegbu’s soul and for heavenly consolation for the late elder statesman’s family.
