Trump declares he would use a “strong military” to stop wars.

Donald Trump, the US president-elect, reiterated his commitment to put an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday, promising a “strong military.”

Trump, who ran on a “America First” foreign policy platform, has stated in the past that he wants to halt the Middle East’s violence by reaching an agreement between Moscow and Kyiv, but he has not provided specifics.

We must return to a great nation with a robust military and cheap taxation. At a dinner hosted by the America First Policy Institute at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, he said, “We’re going to fix our military; we did it once and now we’re going to have to do it again.”

We’re going to put a lot of effort into Russia and Ukraine as well as the Middle East. It must end,” Trump continued.

The “big chunk” of US expenditure in Afghanistan, where American soldiers left in 2021 after two decades of battling an insurgency by the Taliban, who retook control that year, was another area he criticised.

The almost three-year-old war between Russia and Ukraine might be overturned if Trump is re-elected, raising doubts about Washington’s multibillion-dollar defence assistance for Kyiv.

On the campaign trail, the Republican claimed he could put an end to the war in a matter of hours and that he would speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately.

Trump has not specified the conditions he would offer or how he plans to reach a peace agreement for Ukraine.

Despite having a limited resume, Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth, a veteran of the National Guard and host of Fox News, to serve as defence secretary and head of the most powerful military in the world.

Hegseth would be in charge of nearly 3.4 million troops and civilians and manage an annual budget of about $850 billion if the Senate ratified him.

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has been tasked by the president-elect to suggest $2 trillion in cutbacks to the $7 trillion federal government budget.
