Denzel Washington, a Hollywood veteran, revealed that it has been almost 40 years since he tried out for a film part.
In an interview with BBC 1Xtra, the seasoned actor—who is renowned for his stirring roles in Training Day, Malcolm X, and The Equaliser series—shared this.
“That’s been around 40 years,” Washington remarked. It’s been over 40 years since I went to a movie audition. Since I won an Academy Award in 1989, I doubt nobody has ever approached me to try out.
The 69-year-old actor gave a resounding “No” when asked if he missed the audition.
Washington’s open comments provide insight into a career based on extraordinary skill and constant achievement.

He solidified his reputation as one of Hollywood’s most esteemed performers by winning his first Academy Award in 1989 for Glory and a second in 2001 for Training Day.
In addition to reflecting on his career, Washington hinted at probable next endeavours, such as Hannibal, Othello, and a potential role in Black Panther 3.
After making news in recent days due to rumours that he might retire after completing his next five films, including Black Panther 3, Denzel Washington just clarified the situation.
“I didn’t say I was going to go into retirement,” Washington said in an interview with BuzzFeed. It must be a degree of curiosity for me, I stated.
“That’s about five years out,” he continued, “because I’m more interested in getting behind the camera.” It’s really challenging. Perhaps I should have said “retire.” However, I view life as consisting of three parts: learning, earning, and returning. I am currently at the return phase of life.
