Army will look into soldiers’ abuse

An investigation into the alleged brutalisation of a Nigerian after a dispute between him, an officer, and two soldiers was caught on camera and went viral has been ordered by Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Acting Chief of Army Staff.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army’s director of public relations, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

He stated, “A viral audio-visual recording that has been making the rounds on social media platforms has caught the attention of the Nigerian Army (NA).

It allegedly shows a senior Army officer and two other soldiers fighting with a man and woman in the city of Abuja.”

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, has, nevertheless, directed an urgent investigation to ascertain the actual facts of this altercation.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution guarantees the NA’s commitment to serving and defending all law-abiding Nigerians.

The public is therefore urged to be comfortable that every effort will be made to arrive at a rational decision about this issue.
