A direct link direction between their town and the Chinua Achebe International Airport, a vital piece of infrastructure situated on their property, must be built immediately, according to the Umueri community in Anambra State.
The neighbourhood, which was heavily involved in the airport’s construction, is worried that the absence of a suitable road to the facility will decrease its potential economic benefits and restrict accessibility within the area.
The residents of Umueri emphasised the airport’s significance in improving connectivity, increasing tourism, and promoting regional economic growth in a letter to Governor Chukwuma Soludo. They did, however, stress that these advantages, especially for the host community, cannot be fully realised in the absence of an easy and accessible path to the airport.

kemba Buchi Diboh, the previous president of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Malaysia Chapter, signed the letter, which represented the Umueri people’s collective voice.

The letter emphasised how ineffective it is to make Umueri inhabitants go through two other towns in order to get to the airport, which is situated on their property. The community leaders contend that this condition limits the economic prospects that could result from the airport’s vicinity in addition to making it more difficult for the neighbourhood to use the airport.
The letter emphasised that the very advantages that the airport is meant to offer are undermined by the lack of a direct and accessible road for the host community, Umueri, and other municipalities in Omambala to reach this essential infrastructure.
Given the significant sacrifices Umueri has made to ensure the airport project’s success, it is only right that the town be given quick access to it. Increased economic growth is a result of better transportation infrastructure.
