President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Engr. Mele Kyari, the Chief Group Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), have been commended by His Excellency Eshanekpe Israel, also known as Akpodoro, the Mayor of Urhoboland and the head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC), for the successful start of petroleum product loading at the Port Harcourt Refinery.Tinubu is a jinx breaker in the Port Harcourt refinery
Following Tuesday’s announcement that the refinery would restart operations, Akpodoro issued a statement calling President Tinubu a “jinx breaker” who has accomplished what previous governments were unable to.

Akpodoro said, “President Tinubu has shown capacity and dexterity.” He pointed out that previous administrations had made refinery repairs a financial burden, failing to bring the plant back to life even after borrowing billions to maintain it.
The mayor further blamed previous administrations for their failure to produce results and for utilising the refinery as a “conduit pipe to drain national wealth,” especially those of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). He also emphasised Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s failings, which included systemic corruption that prevented the refinery from being operationalised despite funding efforts.
“Today, the man we voted for despite all the odds has given Nigerians a legacy project,” Akpodoro said, lauding Tinubu’s vision and leadership.
He said that he was hopeful that Nigeria’s energy crisis would subside and that market forces may lower fuel costs once the refinery was operating at a capacity of 65,000 barrels per day.
The Mayor also praised Mele Kyari for his leadership, patriotism, and tenacity in overseeing a delicate organisation such as the NNPCL. He emphasised how Kyari has handled issues like oil theft and public mistrust, exhibiting statesmanship in securing the refinery’s advancement in spite of attempts at sabotage meant to keep the reliance on fuel imports.
“This milestone gives Nigerians hope that a better future is possible,” Akpodoro said in closing.
An important milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to increase energy self-sufficiency and lessen dependency on imported petroleum products is the restart of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery.
