A world that is peaceful may seem impossible. However, is it possible that certain nations have never experienced conflict?

San Marino
One of the oldest nations in the world, San Marino was established in the fourth century and has never been at war. With a land area of about 61.2 square kilometres and a population of less than 40,000, this small country is completely encircled by Italy. Even Napoleon and the German army revered its neutrality so much that they left it alone, even during World War II.

Vatican City
The Vatican City, the seat of the Catholic Church, is a tiny, autonomous state inside Rome. It has hardly ever been in combat. There were two unintentional bombings of it during World War II, which resulted in one fatality and one injury. The Pope has traditionally promoted peace, and the Vatican has no official military, depending instead on the Swiss Guard for ceremonial purposes.

Iceland
Iceland has never taken an active part in a conflict. It’s interesting to note that Iceland became independent during World War II when Nazi Germany conquered Denmark, severing its ties to Danish authority. Iceland became independent as a result of the Allied soldiers’ protection during the conflict. Iceland has kept out of wars and maintained its peace ever since.

The Greenland
Despite being ruled by Denmark historically, Greenland has never been involved in combat. Even during the Viking era, Greenland is not known to have fought. Instead of having a military, it depends on the Coast Guard in case of emergency. Due to its distant position, Greenland has avoided conflict.

Vanuatu

Comprising over 80 islands in the South Pacific, Vanuatu is renowned for its serene past and stunning natural surroundings. Even when violence broke out on the Solomon Islands during World War II, Vanuatu remained out of the fray. War has not harmed this peaceful country.
