“Many Nigerians are having difficulty feeding themselves and are unsure of when they will next eat.” Sheriff claimed that these bills will make their situation even worse.
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, on the other hand, emphasised the potential advantages of the tax reform proposals for Nigerians and voiced support for them. He did, however, address reservations about the measures’ Value Added Tax (VAT) component.
Gumi praised the overall goal of the reforms and argued for changes to meet common concerns, saying, “I think the controversial VAT issue is the only part that needs to be reviewed; otherwise, it is a good package for all.”
The opposing positions are a reflection of continuing discussions over the implications of the planned reforms for regional development, economic stability, and equity.
