In the battle against corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on young Nigerians to support it.Join the fight against corruption in Nigeria
In a speech at a Kano town hall on Thursday, Mr. Ola Olukoyode, the commission’s executive chairman, made the request.
To honour the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day, the commission organised the event.
Olukoyode, who was accompanied by Ibrahim Shazali, the commission’s zonal director, stated that “to lend forces and voices in support of activities of anti-corruption agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission” was one way to unite against corruption.
“Youths who are inclined towards progress should be more active in identifying with the Commission’s activities,” he stated.
He claims that the EFCC has systems in place for actively interacting with young people.
“The Integrity Club acts as a focal point for students at the elementary and secondary school levels.
“We have the Zero Tolerance Club at the tertiary university level. According to the executive chairman, they are all venues for participation in the fight against corrupt practices.
According to him, young people may band together to combat corruption by pointing out behaviours and trends that went against responsibility and moral principles in their communities.
For young people, this is merely a chance to come out with information. If we let corruption run amok around us, there is no way to combat it,” he continued.
Members of the National Youth Service Corps, Kano State Council, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and civil society organisations (CSOs) also gave goodwill speeches in the town hall.
Most of the words of goodwill focused on the weaknesses in the current battle against corruption and offered solutions. (Nan)
