Clerics advocate for stricter anti-LGBTQ laws in Nigeria

Abuja More than 60 Nigerian clergy have demanded stricter laws against LGBTQ activity, including extending the current 14-year prison sentence to include cross-dressing and homosexuality-promoting content.

In response to what they characterised as the moral decay of society brought about by LGBTQ acts, they also proclaimed December 15, 2024, a “National Day of Confession and Repentance.”

The National Prayer Altar held a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday to make the announcement.

Speaking on behalf of the religious leaders, Pastor Bosun Emmanuel gave legal, cultural, and religious justifications for opposing LGBTQ activity in Nigeria.

The apparent growth of homosexuality, which they characterised as an alien and immoral force endangering the country’s values, was the topic of the gathering.

The clerics cautioned that Nigerians are becoming less sensitive to what they called an abomination as a result of this counterculture’s infiltration into important fields including politics, education, religion, and the entertainment sector.

“In Nigeria, we oppose sodomy for three compelling reasons,” they said. Cultural: Sodomy is insulting to our ideals and foreign to our culture as Africans. In traditional African civilisations, romance between a man and a woman is typically accepted rather than sodomy. Religious: Sodomy is forbidden in all of Nigeria’s major religions. Legal: Sodomy is prohibited by Nigerian law, and those found guilty face a 14-year prison sentence.

Even among animals, sodomy is not a natural “style” of living and is therefore unacceptable, as nature tells us.

The country is seeing a rise in the number of sodomy cults. Some people believe that engaging in the associated offensive sexual practices is a requirement for getting a job, getting promoted, getting political support, making commercial contacts, getting sponsorship in the entertainment sector, and—most oddly—for “church growth.”

“We urge governments to make laws against sodomy stronger. Anyone who openly endorses the conduct ought to be taken into custody and charged with a crime. This is crucial since some sodomites deceitfully use the media to skew stories and present the crime as “freedom of choice.”

“More media advocacy is needed, especially in schools, to reach our impressionable children. Since the majority of those who advocate this pollution appear to be “successful celebrities,” it is our duty to keep our kids safe.

Nigerian Christians, both domestically and abroad, are urged to observe Sunday, December 15, 2024, as a day of “National Confession and Repentance from Sodomy.” On that day, we encourage Christians to fast and pray for God’s pardon and deliverance from sodomy and other sexual perversions in the nation.

Lastly, we urge parents to implement what we refer to as “home training,” which is crucial education for kids. Parents must work hard to inculcate fundamental values while schools teach knowledge and skills. Youngsters raised in a fear of God are more likely to fend off moral decay.
