In the ruling handed down Thursday, Caroline Oghuma, the presiding magistrate, found Okugbowa guilty of calling a student’s mother a prostitute and sentenced him to six months in prison with a fine of N100,000.

It was alleged that the three educators—Blessing Osarodion, Egharevba Esosa, and Isioma Nimen—were negligent and abandoned two of the students under their supervision.

Osarodion and Esosa were found guilty of two charges of negligence that resulted in the harm of a 6-year-old student and were given a one-year prison sentence with a N100,000 fine as an option.

Nimen received a sentence of three months in prison or N50,000 as a fine for illegally leaving behind another two-year student.

They were charged with charges that violated Sections 167(2), 412, 270, 412, and 267 of the Edo 2022 Criminal Laws.

The charge sheet states that Okugbowa behaved in a way that was likely to provoke a breach of peace on September 8, 2023, at the AIG Zone 5 offices in Benin.

According to reports, he publicly referred to Mrs. Blessing Aigbudu, the mother of the two students, as a prostitute in front of her husband and onlookers.

The three were designated as the children’s carers and collaborated with the Academy on behalf of the teachers.

The sheet claims that the six-year-old daughter suffered severe injuries on September 29, 2021, as a result of the teachers’ failure to fulfil their duties.

Salma Aigbudu reportedly suffered injuries in the school’s waiting area during closing time without receiving any first aid from the on-duty teachers.

The three were also accused of leaving a student in danger in January 2022 by leaving them behind.
