Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency magazine that focusses on the Lake Chad region, says that the event happened on Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Some people with guns ambushed Jumai, the governor’s mother, and Atsi while they were travelling.
According to the news source, a police officer who was supposed to protect the family “accidentally shot Atsi” while he was trying to fight off the attackers.
After the attack, troops quickly stepped in to save the victims and use an air ambulance to take Jumai and Atsi Kefas away from the scene.
Atsi Kefas was taken to the hospital right away to get help. However, her current condition was not made public at the time this report was written.
The vehicle that the attackers used was reportedly found by security forces. There was also an empty magazine and passenger luggage in the car.
