Richard Montgomery, UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, said 300,000 Nigerians received new visas in the “last couple of years.”Britain issued 300,000 visas in 2 years
Montgomery stated this on Sunrise Daily via Channels TV. Nigeria benefits greatly from UK visa policies.
The Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Ikeja, Lagos, was opened last month by its new commercial partner, VFS Global.
At the launch, British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter called it Africa’s largest.
Baxter added that Nigeria was one of UK’s top partners.
Baxter said, “In the year to June 2024, we processed more than 225,000 UK visas for Nigerian nationals across all categories.”
300,000 visas
British High Commissioner Richard Montgomery told Channels TV today, “I have to contest this picture because the UK in the last couple of years has granted around 300,000 new visas to Nigerians, which far exceeds any other visa of relationship which Nigeria has with any other country.
“Post-Brexit trends are positive. Nigeria has benefited greatly from post-Brexit migration visa rules.
If you look at the number of people getting work visas in the UK, they’re crucial in certain sectors, especially social care.
I want to emphasise how big the relationship is. My understanding is that it outweighs any other visa relationship Nigeria has with any other country.”
Montgomery said 10% of UK visas in the last two years went to Nigeria.
He called UK Nigerians’ contributions “incredibly important”.
