The father of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Ezekiel Nwifuru Nwankpu, known for having 30 wives, has been officially crowned as the traditional ruler of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Before those who couldn’t have children left, Ezeogo Nwifuru Nwankpu married 30 wives.

17 wives live with Ezeogo Nwankpu Nwifuru.

The famous farmer traditional ruler had 108 children from 17 wives, including Governor Francis Nwifuru from the fourth wife.

The governor included, 21 of the 108 children are graduates who were raised by their mothers alone in higher education.

After being named Chibugo 1 of Oferekpe Agbaja Autonomous Community, governor Ezeogo Nwankpu oversees 17 villages in Izzi LGA.

The governor gave his father, Ezeogo Nwankpu, a certificate and staff of office in accordance with Ebonyi State Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cap 146.

At the ceremony, Governor Nwifuru recounted how the villagers depressed, intimidated, and molested the family.

He said that they killed his uncle in the village square and then took their land by force.

He says the land is now Oferekpe Agbaja Primary School II, where his father was crowned.

He said his father was hard-working and had 30 wives, but some left because they couldn’t have children.

Governor Nwifuru explains that his father married 30 wives because he was slandered by his family, neighbours, and community for excelling in farming.

The governor said his villagers mistreated or intimidated his father, isolating him.

He married many wives for companionship and help in his pursuit of wealth as a farmer.

He said his father is hospitable and loves his wives, children, relatives, and neighbours. 25 of his children are graduates.

The governor said, “My father is a loving father and husband who cares for all his children and wives.

“All his wives and children work hard to train themselves in school, so we have 25 graduates in my family who struggled with their mothers.”

As his father became king, the governor advised him to be generous with his subjects to maintain peace and unity.

He commanded his father to rule justly and without vengeance under God’s guidance.

Roll call
Chief Godwin Ogbaga, the event’s chairman and former Minister of Power, praised Nwifuru Nwankpu’s installation as the community’s traditional ruler for his contributions to societal development, particularly in the Izhi clan.

Ogbaga credited his son, the state governor, for Ezeogo Nwankpu’s coronation.

He added that Governor Francis Nwifuru signed the document creating the communities as requested and approved, enabling the exercise.

The ceremony was attended by former governors Dr. Sam, Chief Martin Elechi, and Senator David Umahi.

Three senators and six House of Reps represent the state at National Assembly.

Also present were state executives council members, local government chairmen, coordinators, and other government appointees.
