This was a show of support for Kalu in Abuja. It was led by Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, who is the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. They recognised his role as the political leader of the South East region.
He told her, “In today’s political climate, you are our leader.” You are in charge of the Ndi-Igbo people. The reason we came was to show our support and honour. We told them that we are all lawmakers from Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo States.
In his response, Kalu thanked the leaders for their visit and stressed how important it was for political leaders in the region to work together.
He asked the lawmakers to back the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, saying that the government cares about the health and happiness of all Nigerians, not just Ndi Igbo.
“Meeting new people is more useful than making money.” Unite is strong. Because of this, we lose a lot of things and hardly know our own. Quitting to stay home is bad for people; we need to stop it. We need to work together. That which brings people together and helps them grow is powerful.
“I also want to praise you for leaving your different Houses of Assembly to come to the Federal House to be seen.” It’s going to help. A lot of good things happen. It will make your work as a legislator stronger. Speaking from a place of knowledge will help you.
“I also want to thank you for being interested in the change to the Constitution.” We need help to finish it. I’m sure that if you sell people on the problems that come from the federal government, they will accept them.

When it comes to the proposed zonal public hearing, we will want you to back what we are doing to change the Constitution. We plan to start between the first and second quarters of 2019.
“As members of the South East Legislative Forum, you need to be strong and work together on the same legislative issues.” Come up with an idea and think of ways to use it.
“That’s why I want you to back the SEDC.” Some people say that the President said he wouldn’t do it. They gave up on the 3Rs. Let’s back the president. We will make things possible. Everyone in the region will be able to sit down and talk about what we will do at a regional town hall meeting. Safety is one of the most important things. He said, “Let’s improve things like agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, and so on.”
The Deputy Speaker also said that efforts are still being made to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). He was hopeful that these efforts would soon bear fruit.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu needs to come out,” I said. It will happen very soon. Kalu asked, “Please pray for us.”
